This page outlines everything you need to complete your application for the Bachelor of Fine Arts Props and Effects (BFAPFX).
Application & Selection Process
The selection process takes place in two rounds:
Round 1: Online Application and Digital Portfolio
Round 2: Interview (shortlisted applicants only)
Online Application
Complete the online application form and upload all required documents, including your Digital Portfolio.
Digital Portfolio
Your portfolio should showcase examples of your creative work and demonstrate your suitability for study and practice in the arts and entertainment industry.
You may include (but are not limited to) photos and/or videos of:
• Props
• Life drawings
• Hand and digital illustrations
• Paintings
• Technical drawings
• Physical and digital models
• Sculptures
• 3D renders
• Cosplay costumes
• Costume props
• Furniture
We are interested in how you think as an artist, designer, and maker.
Please also select one key project or item that best represents your skills and interests. This will be discussed in detail during your interview.
You may include links to your website or social media platforms that showcase your work.
Requirements:
• Submitted as a single PDF (with embedded or linked content)
• Maximum file size: 80MB

Original Work Requirement
All submissions must comply with NIDA’s Original Work Requirement. This includes that all work must be your own and must not be generated or substantially developed using Artificial Intelligence. Refer to the Admissions Criteria for full details.
Submission
Upload your Digital Portfolio in the Associated File Attachments section of your online application.
• Select Course Specific Application Requirements in the File Category
• Upload each file separately
You will also need to upload:
• Photo ID (select Photo ID)
• Most Recent Qualification (select Most Recent Qualification Evidence)

File Naming Requirements
All files must follow the standard naming convention to ensure correct identification.

Format: lastname_firstname_BFAPFX_2027_documenttype
All files must follow the required naming convention to ensure your application can be correctly identified.
Examples:
• Portfolio: lastname_firstname_BFAPFX_2027_portfolio
• Proof of Identity: lastname_firstname_BFAPFX_2027_photoid
• Most Recent Qualification: lastname_firstname_BFAPFX_2027_qualification
Formatting Requirements
Use lowercase, underscores between all elements, and list your surname first followed by your first name.
Outcome
All applications are reviewed after the closing date.
You will be notified by email of the outcome. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to interview.
Interview
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to a 45-minute interview, held online via Microsoft Teams or in person.
The interview will explore:
• Your portfolio and creative process
• Your ideas about theatre, film, and the broader creative industries
• Your motivation for studying Props and Effects at NIDA
You will also have the opportunity to ask questions about the course or interview process.

Outcome
You will be notified of the outcome by email following completion of the interview process (early December).
