Here are the most common questions teachers and school groups ask NIDA Open.

How do I book a course?

Advertised courses for teachers and students:

  • You can enrol online using a Visa or Mastercard credit card. Alternatively, you can send in an application form with a cheque or money order or call us and enrol over the phone using a credit card. 

Customised Courses:

  • Customised courses for school groups can be booked online and you will be issued with an invoice. Alternatively you can call us to discuss your enrolment over the phone. 

Can NIDA offer workshops at my school or in my state/territory?

NIDA customised workshops can take place at NIDA (Kensington Campus) or at your school in NSW, VIC, QLD, SA, NT, ACT, WA and TAS. Additional travel fees apply for all workshops that take place at venues located further than 25km from the Sydney CBD.

Can I book a tour of NIDA?

A complimentary tour of NIDA is available for all schools who book a customised workshop at the Kensington Campus.

Tours are not available during NSW school holiday periods. School holiday dates are published at australia.gov.au.

Can I find out which tutors will be teaching me prior to the course?

You can contact us one week prior to the commencement of the course to find out who is teaching. Please keep in mind that at times it is necessary for us to make staffing changes at short notice.

What does NIDA organise and what do I need to arrange?

NIDA arranges your course tuition. You need to make your own arrangements for travel, food and if appropriate, accommodation. Please call the office to confirm the course is going ahead before confirming your travel bookings.

What should I wear or bring?

Wear loose, comfortable clothing for any performance related course. Clothes that restrict movement are inappropriate.

In order to participate in a tour, your group must be wearing close toed footwear (shoes or boots).

Bring a notepad and pencil or pen.

Bring a bottle of water with a secure lid.

Is lunch provided as part of my course?

Courses are not catered. Please bring your own refreshments. If your course is taking place at the Kensington campus, there is a café which operates during weekdays that sells food and drink between 8.30am and 4.00pm.

Do I get a certificate from attending a course?

No certificates are issued for customised courses. Certificates of attendance are issued for advertised courses for teachers and students.

How many students can there be in a group?

Maximum class sizes for customised courses are:

  • 16 people for a Screen Acting Class
  • 10 people for a Staging/Entertainment Workshop
  • 25 people for all other workshops. Please contact the School’s Manager to discuss if your group consists of more than 25 people. 
  • Maximum class size for an advertised course is 16 people

What will my customised workshop cost?

Workshops are charged by the hour per group, see customised school workshops.

Can I arrange a customised workshop at NIDA Kensington Campus during NSW school holiday periods?

During NSW school holiday periods NIDA is only able to offer 1 hour workshops between the hours of 9am and 10am or 4pm and 5pm at the Kensington Campus. School holiday dates are published at australia.gov.au.

How do I get to NIDA?

Where do I go on my first day?

If your course is taking place at the NIDA Kensington campus, enter through the glass doors, 215 Anzac Parade, check in at the reception desk and then wait in the foyer until further instruction.

What is your cancellation and refund policy?

Advertised courses for teachers and students:

Customised Courses:

  • NIDA requires full payment for your course one week prior to course start date. NIDA cannot refund the course fees unless we cancel the course. 
  • If you wish to transfer or withdraw, you must advise us in writing at least 2 weeks before the start date of the course. We will then issue a credit note for the full value to be used within 12 months. 
  • A cancellation fee may apply.

Is smoking permissible at the venue?

Smoking is not permitted at the NIDA Kensington campus, or in any of the venues or grounds used by NIDA
