By Anton Chekhov
in a version by Benjamin Schostakowski

NIDA Theatres, Reg Grundy Studio

11–18 June 2022

In this live cinema remake of Chekhov's masterpiece of theatre about the theatre, the love lives of four artists intertwine and unravel as cameras document their intimate interactions. In the middle, Konstantin has a vision for the future of theatre – it needs new forms, or it should cease to exist altogether.

Directed by Benjamin Schostakowski (Metamorphosis) in a partnership with AFTRS, The Seagull is a moving examination of the artist in life and in love.

Benjamin Schostakowski is an award-winning director and graduate of NIDA directing course from 2013. In 2017 Benjamin was named a Glorias Fellow and traveled to New York to learn from Tony-Award winning director Des McAnuff (Jersey Boys). Benjamin is engaged as a Project Director and Investigator for the ARC Research Project: Reformulating set design aesthetics via a dialogical model of interactivity hosted through the University of New South Wales (UNSW).
