This page outlines everything you need to complete your application for the Diploma of Musical Theatre (DMT).
Application & Selection Process
The selection process takes place in two rounds:
Round 1: Online Application, Video Introduction, and Video Audition
Round 2: Callback Audition (shortlisted applicants only)
Online Application
Complete the online application form and upload all required documents, including your introduction and audition video link.
Video Introduction
Prepare a short video introduction to tell us about yourself.
Your video should be approximately 1 minute and filmed in landscape. In your video, include:
• Your name and application number
• A brief overview of your experience
• Why you are interested in this course
Audition Video (Core Task)
You are required to submit a pre-recorded audition video.
• Upload your video to YouTube as Unlisted
• Paste the video link into your online application
• Submit one video only containing all required components
What to prepare
Your audition video should be approximately 4 minutes in total and include:
• Two contrasting musical theatre songs (approx. 1 minute each)
1. One in mid-shot (waist up)
2. One in long shot (full body)
3. Select contrasting songs (e.g. contemporary/classic, comic/dramatic)
4. Perform with accompaniment or backing track (no a cappella)
• One monologue (approx. 1 minute)
1. May be from stage, screen, or self-devised
2. May be performed in your cultural language
3. Must be prepared in English if requested at callback
Videos longer than required may not be viewed in full.
Selecting your material
• Choose material that allows you to demonstrate range, connection, and storytelling.
• Choose material that suits your voice and strengths
• Focus on intention—who you are speaking to and what you want

Photo Requirement
Upload a recent photo of yourself (simple headshot).
Professional photography is not required.
Original Work Requirement
All submissions must comply with NIDA’s Original Work Requirement. This includes that all work must be your own and must not be generated or substantially developed using Artificial Intelligence. Refer to the Admissions Criteria for full details.
Submission Requirements
You must submit one video only, which includes all required components (e.g. introduction and any other required content for your course), along with all required documents as part of your online application.
Video Submission
• Upload your video introduction to YouTube as Unlisted
• Submit one continuous video containing all required components (introduction and audition)
• Paste the video link into the Audition Video field in your application
Include the following in your YouTube video description:
• Full Name: [First Name, Last Name]
• Applicant Number: [Application Number]
• Course: [Course Name] – Introduction
Video title format: lastname_firstname_DMT_2027_introduction
Document Upload
Upload all required documents via the Associated File Attachments section of your online application.
• Select the appropriate option in the File Category field
• Upload each file separately
You must also upload:
• A recent headshot (select Course Specific Requirement)
• A valid form of photo identification (select Photo ID)
• Most recent qualification evidence (select Most Recent Qualification Evidence)

File Naming Requirements
All files must follow the standard naming convention to ensure correct identification.

Format: lastname_firstname_DMT_2027_documenttype
Examples:
• Headshot: lastname_firstname_DMT_2027_headshot
• Proof of Identity: lastname_firstname_DMT_2027_photoid
• Most Recent Qualification: lastname_firstname_DMT_2027_qualification
Outcome
All applications are reviewed after the closing date.
You will be notified of the outcome by email. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend a callback audition.
Preparing for your callback audition
If you are invited to a callback, this is an opportunity for us to see how you perform in the room, respond to direction, and work with others.
Callback Audition
If shortlisted, you will be invited to attend a callback interview (November).
The callback will build on your audition and may include performance, group work, and learning new material.
Further details will be provided with your invitation. The callback process may include:
• Performance-based activities
• Group or individual exercises
• Further exploration of your audition material

Outcome
You will be notified of the outcome via email following completion of the selection process (early December).
