Sharni is an emerging writer and actor working on Bidjigal and Gadigal land in Sydney. Sharni desires to delve into the heart of what it means to be human, exposing the dirty laundry and making you laugh while doing it. Writing across stage and screen, Sharni’s background as a social worker sharpens their knack for empathetically exploring mental health and interpersonal challenges through character driven stories. Their passion lies in telling underrepresented stories, with a hope to one day be spoilt for choice when searching for neurodiverse and queer stories that affirm their own.
In 2024, Sharni was selected as a participant in ATYP’s Fresh Ink National Mentorship program for emerging writers. During the program, Sharni developed Clean Sheets, a drama exploring the reconciliation between estranged and gender-diverse siblings; and Code Amber, which questions how a nurse’s past can impact a patients future. Earlier that year, for the Blue Room Theatre’s Summer Nights season, Sharni wrote and directed queer sex comedy, Splashzone.
When Sharni isn’t writing, you’ll find them performing, doing the splits, or reminding their friends how much they love them.
