Home Profile Ruby Blinkhorn

Ruby Blinkhorn

Ruby is a writer and comedian working on Gadigal and Bidjigal land in Sydney. She is an experienced playwright with a background in theatre, sketch comedy and improvisation. Ruby tells stories that navigate life’s bitterest moments with tender optimism, moving audiences between side-splitting laughter and tears. Writing across stage and screen, she produces poignant social commentary through a comedic voice that is sharp, witty and empathetic. Ruby’s life philosophy is “if you don’t laugh, you’ll cry” with the addition of “and hopefully watchers of my work will do both because that’s the beautiful beast we call life”.

She was selected as a participant in the 2024 ATYP National Studio at Bundanon Trust, and her short screenplay SPLASH, developed through her NIDA Masters of Dramatic Writing, was longlisted for the 2024 Martin-Lysicrates Prize. In 2022, she was awarded the Inner West Council EDGE Residency, and her writing piece ‘My nan loves raffles and carrot cake, and also has dementia’ was published in the SBS Voices Publication. She has written and directed shows performed at Sydney Fringe Festival, Sydney Comedy Festival, PACT Theatre, The Seymour Centre and Improv Theatre Sydney.

Ruby enjoys working in collaborative, dynamic environments and is a high-energy presence in all aspects of the creative process. She is an award-winning improviser (verified), comedy veteran, and poaches the best egg in Enmore (unverified). Ride-or-die fans may remember she was once described by an Umbilical Brother as “really fucking funny”.
