About Rebecca
Rebecca Fingher is a writer for the stage and screen hailing from Boorloo, Western Australia.
After spending lots of time creating works for the stage, Fingher has expanded her focus and talents to include the screen, uniting her work with a wider variety of audiences. She aims to be comedically political, engaging with current cultural conversations and poetically indulgent.
Through her background in performance making, Rebecca champions collaboration, understanding that multiple points of view on a particular story will give the work the best chance at reaching people at a deeper level. Rebecca graduated with the Belinda Dunbar scholarship from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts with a Bachelor of Performing Arts. Her debut work, What of It, was an aggressive yet comedic interrogation of toxic masculinity amongst young men.
It asked her audiences to dive deep into questioning the patriarchal epidemic we have and the cost of it on young men’s health and the society surrounding it. Obsessed with making the audience fall in love with extremely unlikeable characters, she then went on to write, Pull the Pin, a comedy set in a ten-pin bowling alley which saw an overly ambitious woman tear her team apart in order for a win. Both works received great critical acclaim, including nominations for the Performing Arts WA awards.
Rebecca is currently finishing off her studies by completing a Master of Fine Arts, Writing for Performance at the National Institute of Dramatic Art. Always eager and enthusiastic, she can’t wait to burst through the doors and take off the training wheels as she dives head first into writing for the stage and screen. Her current developments include a play about still birth, and a feature film about heroin within suburban families – light topics as usual for Fingher.
