About Rebecca

Rebecca Duke is a graduate of the NIDA’s MFA in Writing for Performance. Her undergraduate studies in English and Politics were taken at the Australian National University. 

As a playwright, Rebecca has worked with The Street Theatre, Canberra Theatre Centre, and Australian Theatre for Young People, among others. She has been published several times by Currency Press in anthologies of new theatre works. In February 2023, her play ‘At Dinner’ had a sold-out season at ACT Hub. Most recently, she was a finalist for the Australian Theatre Festival NYC, New Play Award, and was commissioned by Canberra Youth Theatre to write ‘Wunderkinds’, a full-length play for young people.

Rebecca began her professional life as political reporter in the federal parliament press gallery before becoming a journalist and newsreader on Sydney and national radio. Her studies and work in politics often inform her dramatic writing which frequently interrogate questions of contemporary cultural and political life. 

She’s also an arts administrator having worked in the marketing departments at Sydney Theatre Company and Performance Space. In 2026, she was Festival Producer for ‘New Writers, New Works’ the inaugural year of a festival of new writing by NIDA graduates.

Alongside her writing, and arts administration, Rebecca has emerging dramaturgy practice, working on Rosa Campagnaro’s ‘The Rape of Susanna’ (an adaptation of The Marriage of Figaro), and on Thea Jade’s ‘Manic Pixie Meltdown’.
