Morgan Owen

Morgan Owen is a queer Australian writer and theatre-maker with a background in acting and sex work. Her often-satirical work centres around exploring power dynamics and explores the morally grey areas of humanity. She’s not afraid to approach difficult topics as she feels compelled to delve into the darker side of human nature, what happens when we give in to our baser instincts and what it takes to get us there. Queer, POC writer Carmen Maria Machado, states that as marginalised people, “We deserve to have our wrongdoings represented as much as our heroism, because when we refuse wrongdoing as a possibility for a group of people, we refuse their humanity.” Morgan strives to expand representation of historically marginalised groups (women, LGBTQIA+, sex workers, BIPOC) and depict them in all their complex, villainous and problematic glory.

She attended the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts where she graduated with a Bachelor in Performance Making (2016). She was a part of Black Swan’s Emerging Writers Group in 2018 Where she debuted her first play Sit! (Or I’ll Make You Sit). Sit! saw it’s first audience during The Blue Room Theatre’s 2022 season where it received four PAWA nominations and Western Australian Theatre development funding. After a life-long love story with theatre, she realised monogamy was not for her and is excited to introduce screen into the mix.
