James Dalton specialises in interdisciplinary and applied theatre practices. He graduated from the NIDA directing course in 2011.
As a theatre-maker, James has worked with Griffin Theatre Company, Sydney Theatre Company, Tamarama Rock Surfers and multiple independent companies around Sydney, focusing on developing new writing, staging obscure plays and creating interactive works in odd places.
James’s interests in technology, social dynamics and built environments has led to him collaborating on performance projects with organisations and communities including Legs On The Wall, the City of Sydney, Milk Crate Theatre, residents of the Waterloo Housing Estate, the Sydney Arts Health Collective, Sydney Film Festival, NIDA, Museums of History NSW and architecture students at the University of Novi Sad, Serbia.
James is a PhD candidate in Theatre and Performance Studies at the University of Sydney, where his research examines clinical dramaturgy through fieldwork in an Australian teaching hospital.
