Aruka has been performing for as long as she can remember. She was born in Auckland, New Zealand, and raised in coastal Perth, Western Australia.
From a young age her eyes were glued to the television. Any and every film she could watch, she’d watch. Many evenings were spent with her family, watching classic films, her dad’s foreign language films or the history channel. This childhood obsession with observing and absorbing stories is what lit the match for her passion for acting.
She loves to celebrate her Nigerian heritage as much as she can, being an active member of my traditional dance troupe. In this way she have always been an avid storyteller. Before starting at NIDA, She took a break from acting to pursue her BA in Pre-Law and Political Science and International Relations.
From her first time on stage at age 12, to her first moment in front of the camera at age 20. She has always understood the importance of telling underrepresented stories and raising up the voiceless and was almost set on making a career of this. Post-degree she fell back in love with acting, going on to join the Western Australia Youth Theatre Company.
She hopes to contribute towards telling real stories and connecting with people through performance. She wants to help make Australia’s performance landscape a more inclusive one.
