Triple j and NIDA Student music video nominated for a 2023 Webby Award
NIDA provides our students with professional collaboration opportunities with renowned creative organisations. One such collaboration is our long-standing partnership with triple j Unearthed, wherein NIDA MFA Directing and BFA Design for Performance third-year students produce a professional music video for triple j Unearthed artists. The video also premieres on ABC’s rage program.
In 2022, Ryan Whitworth (MFA Directing, 2022) and Benedict Janeczko-Taylor (BFA Design for Performance, 2022) worked on the music video for Cheats and Liars by Jawbreakers. Now, their MV has been recognised with a nomination in the Student category of the 2023 Webby Awards.
Dr. Ben Schostakowski, the Head of Directing at NIDA comments, “Our partnership with triple j Unearthed and rage continues to provide a brilliant platform of real-world industry collaboration for our students. To see the work of emerging artists like Ryan and Benedict being recognised with a Webby nomination is a coup for the whole team and a glimpse of exciting things to come.”
The Webby Awards honours excellence on the Internet. Established in 1996, The Webby is presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS)—a 2000+ member judging body. The Academy comprises Executive Members—leading Internet experts, business figures, luminaries, visionaries and creative celebrities—and Associate Members who are former Webby Winners, Nominees and other Internet professionals.
“Nominees like Ryan and Benedict are setting the standard for innovation and creativity on the Internet,” said Claire Graves, President of The Webby Awards. “It is an incredible achievement to be selected among the best from the nearly 14,000 entries we received this year.”
As a nominee, Ryan and Benedict’s video Cheats and Liars is also eligible to win a Webby People’s Voice Award, which is voted online by fans across the globe.
