Professor Anna Reid Joins NIDA Board; Chairs NIDA Academic Board

The National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) welcomes distinguished educator and arts leader.

The National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) has announced the appointment of Professor Anna Reid to its Board. Professor Reid will also serve as Chair of the NIDA Academic Board, bringing her extensive experience in performing arts education to Australia’s premier dramatic arts institution.

This appointment coincides with the retirement of Anna Tregloan, a respected multidisciplinary artist, scenographer and creative producer, who concludes her distinguished seven-year tenure on both the NIDA Board and as Chair of the NIDA Academic Board.

NIDA Chair Catherine West praised Tregloan’s contribution: “Anna’s understanding and experience both in the sector and in the education of future industry leaders has made her an invaluable member of the NIDA Board. During her pivotal time as Chair of the NIDA Academic Board, she has overseen the implementation of the MFA and BFA course reviews, ensuring NIDA remains at the forefront of industry practice while maintaining agility in education delivery. On behalf of the staff and students, I’d like to thank her enormously for her time and commitment to NIDA.”

Professor Anna Reid brings a lifetime of tertiary education experience to her new roles. Beginning her career as performing artist, she currently serves as Dean of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where she also completed her own studies.

“Professor Reid’s outstanding history in education and performing arts brings a wealth of tertiary experience and knowledge to NIDA,” said Catherine West. “Her passion for teaching and mentoring students, combined with her governance proficiency, will ensure NIDA maintains its position as a worldwide leader in performing arts education and training.”

Throughout her career, Professor Reid has established an international reputation for her research and collegial approach to learning and teaching development. This is evidenced by her numerous publications, international scholarly collaborations, contributions to the academic community through peer reviews, and the testimonials of colleagues who have participated in her programs. Her academic approach is firmly grounded in a strong research foundation in higher education theory and practice.

Professor Reid developed significant expertise in tertiary policy and practice during her tenures at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) from 1996 to 1999 and Macquarie University (2000-2009). She holds a Master of Educational Administration from the University of New England and a PhD focusing on music in higher education from UTS.

A proud Dharug woman, Professor Reid brings a valuable cultural perspective to her leadership roles at NIDA.

Upon accepting the appointment, Professor Reid said: “I am honoured to join the NIDA Board and serve as Chair of the Academic Board. NIDA’s reputation for excellence in performing arts education resonates globally, and I look forward to contributing to its continued success in nurturing the next generation of creative talent.”
