NIDA Alumni Celebrated at 2023 APDG Awards

The annual APDG Awards celebrates excellence and creativity of Australian production designers in various fields of visual media. The awards recognize the outstanding work of creatives across production design, set decoration, costume design and other related professions in categories such as feature film, television, live performance, events and interactive multimedia.

NIDA congratulates the many Design alumni, both nominated and the winners below who were honoured at the 2023 APDG Awards for their creative excellence.

Nicholas Dare (Design 2001) won the DOCKLANDS STUDIOS MELBOURNE ART DIRECTION FOR A FEATURE FILM OR TELEVISION PRODUCTION AWARD for his role as Art Director (with Sophie Nash – Supervising Art Director) for the feature film Three Thousand Years of Longing.

The JMB FX STUDIO COSTUME DESIGN FOR A TELEVISION PRODUCTION AWARD went to Rita Carmody (Design 2007) as Costume Designer and Costume Supervisor, Genevieve Graham (Design 2016) and Jasmine Christie (Design 2010) – Buyer/Dressers (and Emma Russell) for Heartbreak High.

The CATHERINE MARTIN COSTUME DESIGN FOR A FEATURE FILM AWARD was won by Tess Schofield (Design 1986) APDG – Costume Designer (with Chris Baldwin – Assistant Costume Designer) for Thirteen Lives.

Lighting Designers Benjamin Brockman (Design 2011) and Morgan Moroney (TTSM 2020) – won the EVENT ENGINEERING LIGHTING DESIGN FOR A LIVE PERFORMANCE OR EVENT AWARD for Cleansed.

Justin Nardella (Design 2008) won the VECTORWORKS AUSTRALIA SET DESIGN FOR A LIVE PERFORMANCE OR EVENT AWARD for Fashion Freak Show.

The DOCKLANDS STUDIOS MELBOURNE PRODUCTION DESIGN FOR A FEATURE FILM AWARD was won by Catherine Martin (Design 1998) APDG (with Karen Murphy APDG – Production Designers, with Beverley Dunn APDG – Set Decorator, Ian Gracie APDG – Supervising Art Director) for ELVIS.

NIDA's Head of Design Bob Cousins presented the NIDA FOUNDATION TRUST EMERGING DESIGNER FOR A LIVE PERFORMANCE OR EVENT AWARD to Angelica Rush and Eloise Kent – Multi-disciplinary Designers for WINNER: Eclipse.
