NIDA Corporate explored the theme of ‘creative tension as inspiration’ at Semi Permanent 2018, a three-day conference at Carriageworks in Sydney on design, technology and creativity and ideas for a future we can live in.
The theme addressed the moments of positive and negative friction that come before a breakthrough. NIDA Corporate delivered a one-and-a-half-hour interactive seminar, where we encouraged participants to focus on developing personal presence and rapport while strengthening their awareness of communication techniques.
A strong take-away from the session was that it is an individual who is responsible for communicating the product message, not the product itself. Designers, makers, and creatives may produce inspiring works that they feel ‘speak for themselves’, but unless the individual can communicate the product benefits clearly, articulately and with passion, the product will not get traction.
Being aware of yourself and your instinctive reactions vs. the perception you wish to create, was another take-away. This is the difference between letting positive or negative friction impact you.
