NIDA is proud to partner with Australian Plays Transform (APT) on a new pilot initiative designed to support and uplift the next generation of First Nations voices in performance writing. The First Nations Emerging Writers Group is a national writing collective offering education, support and experience for emerging First Nations storytellers who are passionate about writing for performance.
Open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists across the country, this program will be delivered online with eight sessions over 16 weeks. Acclaimed performer and writer, Jada Alberts (Mystery Road, Redfern Now), will lead the program, guiding participants through a series of practical workshops, conversations with industry professionals, and feedback sessions designed to deepen participants’ craft.
“I’m thrilled to be leading the APT X NIDA Emerging Writers Group. I look forward to working alongside this nationwide group of emerging First Nations storytellers to help bring their unique voices and stories to the forefront.” — Jada Alberts
At the end of the program, each writer will have developed a short piece of work, gained a deeper understanding of dramatic writing, and connected with a growing network of peers and professionals. Participants will receive financial support via a bursary to help make this opportunity accessible, no matter where they’re based.
Applications close 7 July.
