NIDA acknowledges the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the lands on which we learn and tell stories, the Bidjigal, Gadigal, Dharawal and Dharug peoples, and we pay our respects to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders past and present.
A versatile maker, Rachel has strengths in a multitude of making practices.
Working together with her classmates, Rachel has enjoyed bringing makers together to create unique collaborative works.
Rachel grew up in regional Queensland, always tinkering with found objects which instilled a sense of resourcefulness within her making practice. She involved herself in theatrical productions in numerous ways before she took on a role as props supervisor for a production of Arabian Nights while living in Bangkok. After returning to Australia, Rachel strived to further her practical skills by enrolling at NIDA in the Properties and Objects course. Since then, she’s enjoyed learning many methods of fabrication and bringing objects to life.
Rachel has enjoyed exploring the relationships between historical practice and contemporary technologies and hopes to continue viewing how those effect the making industry today. She has passions for sculpture, upholstery, and moulding and casting but most loves the variety of fabrication techniques one gets to use in the arts industry. She’s explored special effects as an intersection of these practices and hopes to continue to do this.
