Ruby’s appetite for theatre and making stems from a childhood of attending theatre productions and art exhibitions in Melbourne. From a young age, she was encouraged to pursue artistic avenues through exploring mixed media sculpture, graphic design and illustration.
The combination of these interests led her to pursue the Bachelor of Fine Arts (Properties and Objects) at NIDA after completing her VCE in 2016, in which her final work received full marks and was exhibited at the National Gallery of Victoria in the 2016 Top Arts Exhibition.
Throughout her time at NIDA, Ruby has worked as a Props Assistant, Maker and Supervisor, and has enjoyed crafting a range of props and prop effects, such as a pair of puppeteered wings, a deceased edible cat and a water breaking effect. For her final third-year work, she fastidiously researched the history and craft of reliquaries, designing and producing her own series of contemporary reliquaries that focus on fine metalworking and modelmaking skills.
After NIDA, Ruby is looking forward to exploring the film and theatre sector through sharing her passion and honing her craft with like-minded practitioners and artists.
