Zoe Rolfe

Zoe Having always had a keen interest in the arts Zoe performed as a dancer until the end of high school, beginning her fascination with the relationship between fabric and movement of the body. Zoe attended Mount Gravatt Institute of TAFE and completed a Certificate II in Fashion Design and Technology in 2011.

In 2013, Zoe attended James Cook University and completed a Diploma in Creative Industries. Zoe continued to take classes and seek mentors learning numerous making techniques including fibre art, bead making, resin, dying and painting. Having good foundation knowledge in sewing, art history and costume for performance, Zoe applied to NIDA ready to gain industry level skills.

In 2019 Zoe completed a secondment on Dancing with the Stars designed by Tim Chappel. Zoe will complete her second secondment with The Australian Ballet in November i. Zoe completed her research project exploring natural dyes and their place within costume. The project explored alternate methods of creativity, the historical timeline of each dye colour and the cultural significance of their beginning.

After graduating, Zoe aspires to continue making costumes for TV, film and theatre, specifically within the genres of history, fantasy and adventure. Zoe aspires to learn more about dyeing, working with new materials and techniques and exploring more sustainable practices in costume making.
