Netflix Boosts NIDA Scholarship Support For Emerging Talent

Two $30K Scholarships available to First Nations people and people of colour studying NIDA’s Diploma of Screen and Media (Specialist Make-up Services) in 2027

The Netflix Specialist Make-up Scholarship will increase to two $30,000 dollar scholarships in 2027 for Diploma of Screen and Media (Specialist Make-up Services) students who identify as First Nations and/or a person of colour to cover academic fees and living expenses for the one-year course.

Established in 2025, this expanded partnership reflects NIDA and Netflix’s shared commitment to fostering creative careers and providing pathways into hair and make-up roles in film, television and the wider creative industries.

NIDA’s Director of First Nations & Outreach Travis Cardona said: “We are incredibly grateful to Netflix for not only continuing its support but for increasing it to provide opportunities for two students to study Hair and Make-up at NIDA in 2027. Scholarships like this can open doors, create pathways and ensure talented artists are not excluded from the industry because of systemic barriers. The creative industries need practitioners whose experience reflects the diversity of communities and the stories we see on screen”.

NIDA’s Specialist Make-up Services one-year course provides internationally recognised training led by industry experts in the crucial role of hair and make-up artistry. Students will learn to bring authentic on-screen characters to life as they explore a variety of styling and application techniques, as well as the importance of maintaining continuity throughout a production. The course also offers hands-on opportunities for makeup design, hair styling, preparing wigs and designing make-up special effects and prosthetics, and provides insights into potential career paths within this exciting industry.

Applications close on Monday 26 October for NIDA’s Diploma of Screen Media (Specialist Make-Up Services). For more information on the Netflix Specialist Make-up Scholarship and how to apply visit NIDA’s website.
