Aruka Ezeugo has been performing for as long as she can remember. Hailing from coastal Perth, Western Australia, and originally born in Auckland, New Zealand, Aruka celebrates her Nigerian heritage as much as she can. Aruka is an active member of her traditional dance troupe, where she performs regularly at cultural festivals. In this way Aruka has always been engaged in active storytelling, whether it be through performing on the stage or on screen. Before being accepted into the Diploma of Stage and Screen Performance at the National Institute of Dramatic Art, Aruka took a 3-year hiatus from acting to pursue her Bachelor of Arts in Pre-law and Political Science and International Relations.
Being an immigrant herself, she understands the importance of telling underrepresented stories. Post-degree she reconnected with her creative side, going on to join the Western Australia Youth Theatre Company. Aruka’s guiding principle is that the more voices that can be celebrated and the more stories that can be told, the more Australia becomes a place where everyone is truly represented.
