Erin is a writer and producer driven by an insatiable desire to make the world a more whimsical place, and what better way to do that, than theatre and film? Through these mediums she creates hyperbolic scenarios, filled with kooky female characters who, despite their bubbly cinnamon scented adventures, are still driven by universal themes of connection and self-doubt. Maybe they also have a cute sidekick, Pedro Pascal say? Doesn’t have to be, we’re just spitballing here. But if you could let him know? That’d be great thanks xx
But Erin’s journey to creating these stupendous stories was a long and winding road. First, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in English Literature at the University of Sydney, where her focus was on the Cold War spy thriller and that most ineffable of spies, Bond, James Bond. Then she thought she’d better get serious about film craft, snapping up an Adv Dip in Screenwriting at AFTRS and an MA in Producing at the VCA. She also had a brief stint in LA, where she won the AFI Writer’s Pitch Competition for her film, Sexy Lamps, and once made Jennifer Anniston laugh in a Supermarket Carpark. And, because she felt she should ground her whimsy with some practical experience, she has worked as an on set as a script supervisor and production assistant, learning all the ins and outs of the wondrous experience of film production.
Now she’s firmly back in Sydney, where she’s expanding her writing into the realms of all things dramatical with a MFA in Dramatic Writing at NIDA. She is currently working on Cherry Pie at 5, a play about a reluctant pastry chef stuck in a time warp, and A Stitch in Time Co., a cozy murder mystery series where nobody dies. She hopes to one day bring all her whimsy to the world through her stories, to showcase characters that are bizarre yet loveable allowing audiences to delight in the strange – whilst also, hopefully, finding some solace too.
