NIDA Pathways Program

At NIDA we believe that storytelling is powerful, and we are committed to ensuring that the voices shaping our national narrative reflect the full diversity of Australia.

Our Pathways Program is designed to introduce First Nations and People of colour aged 18–25 to career opportunities in the screen and performing arts industries.

Participants engage in hands-on learning and have the opportunity to meet a range of industry professionals and NIDA course specialists. Young people in the program have access to professional facilities, mentorship, and career advice, all designed to inspire creativity, build confidence, and empower participants to take their first steps toward a future in the arts.


‘Behind the Scenes’ January Intensive

Are you First Nations or Person of Colour aged 18–25 and curious about a creative career behind the scenes?

Join us for a one-week immersive experience in the dramatic arts, exploring behind-the-scenes disciplines:

  • Design
  • Costume
  • Props & Effects
  • Technical Theatre & Stage Management
  • Makeup

This free program invites participants to explore their potential  and discover new pathways to future study or careers in the arts.

What’s Included:
✅ Flights & accommodation for interstate participants
✅ Accommodation for regional NSW participants
✅ All meals, tuition, and materials
✅ Access to NIDA’s facilities and industry professionals
✅ Ongoing career advice from NIDA’s First Nations & Outreach team after the Workshop

Selection Criteria: 

We’re looking for applicants who: 

  • Identify as First Nations and/or a Person of Colour
  • Are aged 18–25 and reside in Australia
  • Have an interest in creative industries and behind-the-scenes roles
  • Show motivation, curiosity, and a desire to learn and collaborate
  • Would benefit significantly from access to this opportunity
  • Are available to commit to attend the full program

No prior experience required — just bring your passion and curiosity!

Coming in July 2026: Performance Intensive

A one-week program focused on acting, movement, voice, and screen performance for First Nations and POC creatives.
