Samuel McGown was born in Brisbane and raised in Hobart to a Samoan mother and Australian father. He grew up with a big imagination, fuelled by a creative household and countless games of Dungeons & Dragons with his dad.
After discovering acting in high school, Samuel became involved in Hobart’s local theatre scene performing in community and university plays and musicals, growing his love for connecting with people through performance.
Before being accepted into NIDA’s BFA Acting program, Samuel worked as cheesemonger, becoming (in his words) a ‘maverick’ in both the cutting and selling of cheese despite being lactose intolerant. Samuel is passionate about telling meaningful stories and hopes to contribute to a more expansive and inclusive performing arts landscape in Australia, particularly for Pasifika voices.
Outside of acting, Samuel writes, sings, longboards, and plays a handful of sports, though not all at once.
