Leave a lasting legacy
By leaving a gift in your will to NIDA, you will be supporting future generations of talented, creative Australians working in the performing arts.
NIDA has an endowment fund managed by the NIDA Foundation Trust, built by the generosity of bequests. Income from this fund supports initiatives that are not supported by NIDA’s core government funding, including scholarships.
Through a bequest, you can ensure that your wishes are respected, those you ultimately want to benefit will receive your support, and your generosity will be remembered by generations to come.
Example bequests that have made a significant impact on NIDA are
- Frederick J Gibson Bequest: theatre manager and producer Freddie J Gibson’s generous gift has helped NIDA students and alumni travelling internationally and supported the development and production of new Australian works.
- Bequest by esteemed writer of film and theatre and NIDA teacher and actor Nick Enright AM, has supported numerous NIDA student production seasons.
There are numerous annual scholarships for students in financial need funded by bequests, through the NIDA Foundation Trust. NIDA acknowledges the generosity of bequests on the NIDA website and listing on screens in the building.
“A bequest to NIDA will guarantee support for generations of future NIDA students focused on careers in the performing arts. I received tremendous support as a NIDA student, that has led to a very happy 50-year career within the national and international creative arts communities.”
– Dr Peter Cooke AM PhD, NIDA Foundation Trust Member, (NIDA Bachelor of Dramatic Art, 1972-1974)
How to make a bequest
Bequests can be made through your will by gifting:
- A specific asset (shares, property, art, etc)
- A specified sum of money
- A portion or percentage of an estate
- A life insurance policy
You should speak to your legal advisor who can advise you on how to prepare a will to incorporate your wishes, or you may add a codicil to an existing will to include NIDA.
Should you wish that your gift be directed to a specific program, activity or aspect of our work at NIDA, we would recommend you contact us to talk about how best to express this in your will. You are also able to leave bequests unencumbered to be used by NIDA as deemed appropriate by the NIDA Foundation Trust Directors.
The following clause is intended as a guide only for consideration and may assist your legal advisor in the preparation of your will.
“I give to the NIDA Foundation Trust ABN 19 508 938 522 (Specific amount or percentage of estate or describe property or other assets) for use and benefit of NIDA for its general purposes and I direct that a receipt from the NIDA Foundation Trust shall be sufficient discharge of such a gift.”
