Tegan Ware is a playwright and screenwriter based in the Illawarra. Her experience growing up in a regional city and working within the hospital system, inspires the flawed, resilient characters she writes. Tegan taps into characters impacted by cycles and systems through her intimate storytelling. She leans into darkness to deliver, chilling, heart-wrenching stories that make intimate moments feel epic.
Ware’s play ‘Cicada’ is a non linear exploration of memory and the lifecycle of an artist through trauma and substance abuse, that was shortlisted for the Patrick White Playwriting Award (2024) and is currently in development through the Merrigong X artist program (2023-2025). Her screenwriting work has been selected in the top 20% of entries in the Austin Film Festival Screenwriting Competition (2023, 2024, 2025) and earned her a place in the Nostos Screenwriting Program in Italy (2024). Her short film Ring Around, about a man calling his loved ones to deliver news of a devastating diagnosis, was selected for a NIDA x AFTRS collaboration.
She is currently completing her Masters in Dramatic Writing at NIDA and previously studied screenwriting through the UCLA Professional Program.
In her spare time, Tegan writes and directs music videos for up and-coming musicians, using her storytelling muscles to create exciting narrative concepts. Ware is currently developing several projects including an absurdist tragicomedy about gambling addictions in entrenched workplaces and a revenge thriller critiquing Australia’s sporting culture.
