Sophie Blackburn

Sophie Blackburn is a performer originally from Canberra whose creative journey began in an unexpected place. As a young student, she was captivated by astronomy and zoology, leading to extraordinary opportunities, including attending NASA Space Camp in the United States. At the time, she was certain her future lay among the stars.

Everything changed when a high school drama teacher asked for help backstage. What began as an introduction to sound, lighting and stage management soon evolved into a passion for performance, ultimately drawing Sophie into the spotlight herself.

She became heavily involved with Canberra Youth Theatre and collaborated with a number of production companies before moving to Wollongong to undertake a Bachelor of Performance and Theatre at the University of Wollongong. In 2024, Sophie was awarded a New Colombo Plan scholarship, which enabled her to study at the Hanoi Academy of Theatre and Cinema in Vietnam, collaborating with fellow theatre students and artists from across the region.

Shortly before entering her final year of university, Sophie was accepted into the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA), furthering her commitment to a career in performance and storytelling.

Outside of acting, Sophie can often be found snorkelling, surfing, baking a highly acclaimed shepherd’s pie, or performing sold-out concerts for her shower audience. Curious, energetic and collaborative by nature, she is passionate about bringing stories to life and creating work that sparks connection, joy and a touch of delightful chaos.
