Congratulations to NIDA alumna and Game of Thrones production designer Deborah Riley (Design, 1996) who received an Outstanding Achievement in Film and Television Award at the 16th annual G'Day USA event in Los Angeles.

Deborah joined leading Australian celebrities of film and theatre at the event. Several NIDA alumni were in attendance including Miranda Tapsell (Acting, 2008) and Harriet Dyer (DMT 2007).

G’Day USA is the premier public and economic diplomacy program of the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in the United States. Along with Founding partners DFAT, Qantas, Tourism Australia and Austrade, G'Day USA enters its 16th year bringing together corporate leaders, policy makers, creative industries and academia from both countries in a year-long series of activities designed to cultivate and enhance the Australia-United States relationship.

From high-profile, star-studded black tie galas, networking opportunities, conferences and forums, to business events, retail promotions, innovation presentations, and tourism workshops, G'Day USA events throughout the year are highly anticipated celebrations of the US/Australia relationship.

According to msn, Riley thanked the people who have 'shaped me, and made me the person I am today.' Riley also singled out NIDA alumni Baz Luhrmann (Acting, 1985) and Catherine Martin (Design, 1988) as central figures in her career, 'and for the teams of people they have inspired working for them.'

The G'Day USA Gala on 26 January honoured other Australians in performing arts, including singer songwriter Helen Reddy with a Lifetime Achievement award, and actor Liam Hemsworth for Excellence in Film.
