New appointments to the NIDA Board

NIDA has appointed four new Board members at the company’s annual general meeting on Thursday 21 May.

NIDA has appointed four new Board members at the company’s annual general meeting on Thursday 21 May.

Chair of the NIDA Board, Jennifer Bott AO welcomed Noel Staunton, Suanne Colley, Peter Ivany and Justin Ryan to the Board. 

Ms Bott also acknowledged the retirement from the Board, after six years of invaluable service, of Garry McQuinn and Professor Elizabeth More AM and thanked them both for their dedication and significant contribution to NIDA.

“Elizabeth has been Chair of NIDA’s Academic Board since 2011 and NIDA has benefited from her expertise in higher education academic governance, as well as her passion for the arts,” commented Ms Bott. 

“As a successful international director and producer of some of the most loved stage and film productions, Garry McQuinn has contributed his industry insight to helping ensure NIDA’s courses prepare our students for sustainable careers across the arts and entertainment sectors.

“I am looking forward to working with the new Board members who will be helping ensure NIDA continues to be an innovative and sustainable driver of the Australian creative community,” commented Ms Bott.

“Their wealth of knowledge will help NIDA meet the changing needs of the rapidly evolving arts and entertainment sectors.”

Noel Staunton brings his considerable multi-arts experience to the NIDA Board, including his five-year tenure as Artistic Director of the Brisbane Festival. His previous positions include CEO of Sydney Dance Company, Technical Director for Opera Australia and Executive Producer for Bazmark Live. Staunton is a previous member of the NIDA Academic Board.

Suanne Colley is a brand and marketing strategist and Asian specialist with a strong personal interest in the arts. She is currently the CEO of BrandPlus Asia and has worked with industrial, professional, financial, corporate advisory and medical research services as a leading adviser to clients in business to business markets in Australia and Asia.

Peter Ivany AM has extensive expertise in the business sector, having been Chief Executive of Hoyts for over 10 years as well as founding Ivany Investment Group. Ivany also has wide ranging experience in the not-for-profit sector, having previously served as the Chairman of AFTRS and on the board of Art Gallery NSW and the Museum of Contemporary Art. He has served NIDA as Chairman of the NIDA Foundation Trust since April 2013.

Justin Ryan brings broad experience in the finance and business sectors. He has been Director of Quadrant Private Equity since 2011 and prior to this was CEO of Alesco Corporation Ltd. Ryan has been a Board member of the Benevolent Society since 2008 and is Chairman of their People Learning and Culture Committee.

Ms Bott also announced that Ralph Myers and The Hon Justice Kathleen Farrell were re-elected to the Board for a second term.

“I look forward to their ongoing contributions as both have been valuable members helping achieve numerous strategic advances for NIDA,” commented Ms Bott.
