
Seeking a Set Designer for School Productions
Shore School is seeking a Set Designer to work on a range of shows including 4 productions a year; from a small Year 8 play to a large-scale senior Musical. See more details outlined below.
Set Design Projects
The following sets out a proposed design contract between a Set Designer and Shore. There are two parts to this contract. Part A is a schedule of design milestones. Part B is base on a negotiated hourly rate for engaging a Designer to perform scenic artwork or set assembly works associated with the show.
Part A – Proposed Contract Deliverables
Middle School Preliminary Design (19 May 2025)
- Meetings to establish show requirements
- Concept Drawings Accepted by Shore for use on the show
Middle School Design Complete (10 June 2025)
- All models complete
- Drawings sufficient for building/engineering are complete
- Any required safety/engineering design revisions complete
- Onsite supervision of delivery/assembly of set items
- Provide operational training needed to use items designed for the show
Senior Play Preliminary Design (4 August 2025)
- Meetings to establish show requirements
- Concept Drawings Accepted by Shore for use on the show
Senior Play Design Complete (15 September 2025)
- All models complete
- Drawings sufficient for building/engineering are complete
- Any required safety/engineering design revisions complete
- Onsite supervision of delivery/assembly of set items
- Provide operational training needed to use items designed for the show
Part B – Proposed Hourly Rate for Scenic Art and Set Assembly Works
It is proposed that the Designer is able to be engaged for Scenic Art works and/or Set Assembly works.
Agreement for Designer to work for any aspect of a show and then charge for those hours must be:
- Planned in advance as part of the budgeted procurement for the show
- Accepted by the Producer of the show or the Theatre Manager
- Authorised by the Deputy Head Co-Curricular
- Be noted using Shore standard timesheets with “Authorising Signature” by either the Head of Drama or the Theatre Manager
