Two NIDA graduate success stories return to where it all began

Recently, NIDA welcomed Ella Scott-Lynch (Acting, 2004) and Toby Schmitz (Acting, 1999) back to our Kensington campus to speak with our first year Acting students about how to make the most out of their time at NIDA and how to survive and thrive in the industry.

NIDA welcomes back two success stories

Recently, NIDA welcomed Ella Scott-Lynch (Acting, 2004) and Toby Schmitz (Acting, 1999) back to our Kensington campus to speak with our first year Acting students about how to make the most out of their time at NIDA and how to survive and thrive in the industry.

Since graduating from NIDA, Scott-Lynch has been in many successful Australian TV series. Most recently, she was Bev Brock in Brock (Network Ten), and appeared in The Code (ABC), Love Child (Nine Network) and Janet King (ABC).

Schmitz, meanwhile, is currently appearing in The Rover at Belvoir, and Newton’s Law (ABC), Black Sails (USTV), STC’s The Present and many others. He is also an accomplished director and award-winning playwright, having won the Patrick White Playwrights Award for Lucky (2002) and the Australian National Playwrights Award for his play Chicks will dig you! (2004).

During the session, the pair provided some excellent insights about collaborating to make work happen and how research and the techniques that they learnt at NIDA underpin everything they do. Their flexibility and artistic generosity have created opportunities which they have embraced on stage and screen.

As part of our Capital Campaign, Schmitz and Scott-Lynch then sat down for an evening of entertainment and insight, dining with NIDA donors to tell them about their time at NIDA and how it has influenced their successful careers in Australia and overseas.
