Seeking Visual Assistant
Writer, director, and producer Baz Luhrmann is looking for a visual assistant.
This role is based on the Gold Coast and sits within a broader assisting team, combining elements of general assistantship with a clear specialisation in visual archiving, reference management, and image-based research. The ideal candidate is highly organised, fluent in tech, familiar with the latest developments in AI, and has a background in the visual arts, whether that be photography, animation, graphic design, videography, or non-traditional media.
Applicants must either be local to the Gold Coast or prepared to relocate and assume responsibility for their housing/accommodation.
Visual Assistant responsibilities include:
- Personal / general assisting, including but not limited to communications, scheduling, coordination, travel logistics, and day-to-day administrative support, in collaboration with a broader assisting team
- Building, maintaining, and evolving visual archives of photographic, cinematic, artistic, architectural, fashion, and design references across multiple projects
- Organising large volumes of pictorial material across physical and digital formats, implementing clear tagging, labelling, and retrieval systems that prioritise speed, clarity, and long-term usability
- Conducting image-based research, sourcing references from art history, cinema, photography, fashion, graphic design, and advertising
- Preparing visual reference decks and presentations for internal development
- Managing and maintaining physical reference materials, including books, prints, binders, ephemera, and collage
