2022 BFA Technical Theatre & Stage Management

Jess is an emerging Sound Designer, Composer, and Production Manager from Sydney, Australia. Jess studied the BFA Technical Theatre and Stage Management Course at NIDA (National Institute of Dramatic Arts). As a performer and a musician prior to attending NIDA, she has found her passion for music and live performance as it intersects with theatre through composition and sound design. She also explores production Management and video system roles alongside her main sound passion.
During her time at NIDA she has excelled doing her four sound design roles and composition works such as in DRRRM Play (Festival of Emerging Artists 2020), Perfect Stranger (July Production Season 2021), Hotel (Festival of Emerging Artists 2021) and Eugene (October Production Season and Force Majeure Collaboration 2022). She has also production managed in Picnic at Hanging Rock (July Production Season 2022) and stage managed Love and Information (October Production Season 2021). In her first year, she also assistant stage managed for Roundabout (Digital Theatre Festival 2020) and had the role of Technical Assistant in Government Inspector (October Production Season 2020).
Jess has experience in a diverse range of theatrical and live performance genres. This makes her an out-of-the-box designer and an even better collaborator. She plans to continue to explore how emerging technologies bring life to new and emerging work. In particular, theatre, post-dramatic theatre, circus, immersive theatre/performance, social theatre. Although Jess is also working freelance in sound design, stage management and as a technician, she is always eager to try new things and create new work.
