Damien Egan

Damien Egan

Damien is passionate about design for live performance, film, fine art and history. After a diverse career, including the Australian Army Engineers, he eventually committed to the one career that combines his interests in history, fine art and production design.

In June 2017, he completed a professional secondment at Glyndebourne Opera in the UK for the opening of Brett Deanʼs Hamlet. This experience gave him an incredible insight into the world of international opera where he observed some of Australiaʼs finest theatre makers at work, including Neil Armfield AO, Ralph Myers and Alice Babidge, inspiring him to pursue a career in large scale theatre.

Damien has a strong social conscience and sense of engagement with Australiaʼs history and culture. He wishes to create live works from an indigenous viewpoint. He is currently developing an indigenous inspired stage production of Macbeth.

Damien is writing and developing a short horror film Choco about an indigenous soldier in a post-Vietnam Australian Army. Damien plans to design for both live performance and film.
