Bespoke school workshops
NIDA’s customised workshops are available for preschool, primary and secondary school students.
Our collaborative approach to designing customised courses recognises the expertise of teachers in creating programs that best meet the needs of their school community.
Customised courses take place at NIDA (Sydney or Melbourne) or at your school. Learning opportunities can range in length from a one hour visit to residencies lasting up to a year.
All schools who book workshops at NIDA Kensington on weekdays within NSW term times are eligible to request a NIDA talk. The talk is approximately 20 minutes in length and provides an opportunity for students to learn more about training pathways available at NIDA*.
Maximum class size at NIDA (Sydney or Melbourne) is limited to 14 students + school staff and NIDA tutor for all classes in keeping with the current COVID 19 social distancing restrictions. These limits apply to all future bookings and will be reviewed regularly in response to the changing circumstance.
Maximum class size in schools is negotiated with the School Teacher and Program Manager, Schools and Community. Schools must be able to uphold NIDA COVID-safe standards and implement social distancing in the classroom.
A school-appointed classroom teacher must be present in the teaching space at all times throughout the workshop delivery. This teacher will be responsible for managing any student behaviour issues that may arise. The classroom teacher is encouraged to actively participate in the class.
See NIDA Opens Health and Safety, COVID-safe standards here.
*NIDA talks are not available during school holidays.

Experience NIDA
Each year, NIDA welcomes schools from around the world to experience NIDA’s expert performing arts education and training.
Whether your group is looking to visit our Kensington campus for a short introductory session, extend their skills as performers, designers or technicians during a full–day course, or would like to immerse themselves in NIDA by working with industry artists to create a performance over two weeks, we can customise an experience to suit your needs.
All school groups who book workshops at NIDA on weekdays within NSW term times are eligible to request a NIDA talk. These talks are complimentary and are 20 minutes in length.

Connect to Curriculum
Working in collaboration with classroom teachers, NIDA customises workshops to address curriculum outcomes across all states and territories in Australia. If your group is looking to access specialist skills in performance styles, rehearse scenes from a prescribed text, develop practical skills in devised performance or use drama as pedagogy to enhance literacy outcomes, we can create a specialised program that best suits the needs of your students.
These workshops can take place at NIDA or at your school and can range in length from one and a half hours to an immersive program that takes place over a term or semester.

Create Solutions
NIDA welcomes the opportunity to collaborate with school communities and create solutions to challenging problems. In the past we have worked with schools seeking creative ways to increase literacy outcomes, inspire creative thinking and problem solving, develop group cohesion and inspire leadership skills.
These workshops can take place at NIDA or at your school.
