After gaining a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre (Theory and Practice), Laura Turner went on to train at NIDA to gain a Cert III in Live Production and Technical Services. In addition, she holds a Bachelor of Education and Cert IV in Training and Assessment which allows her to share her skills with others at Nowra Anglican College on the South Coast where she has taught Drama and Entertainment Industries for 20 years. At the College she directs large scale musicals (where every child can be involved if they choose) with often 200 students. These have won awards for among others Best School Musical. She also works as a theatre technician in the local Entertainment Centre. She loves all aspects of theatre especially directing and stage managing. Laura has written and directed two site specific performance performed in historical venues with the support of Museums of History NSW. Each year she enjoys the opportunity to donate her time to stage manage a variety of charity events including Stars of Nowra for the Cancer Council and Zonta Women’s Awards. She has served on the Shoalhaven Arts Board and with Albatross Musical Theatre Company (AMTC) as a committee member then president for 3 years. With AMTC Laura has co-directed award-winning productions of Mary Poppins, Wicked, The Last Five Years and Mamma Mia! She developed a mentor program in which young people in the regional area learn theatre etiquette and technical skills and especially encourages young women in the technical areas of theatre. Laura is passionate about the impact drama can have on both the performer and the audience. In this pursuit, Laura hopes to be an advocate for the culturally rich indigenous Australians, minority groups and to promote topics less spoken about, by representing their stories, voices and perspectives through theatre and expression.
