About Hunter
Hunter Depalo is a Sydney-based prop maker particularly interested in 3D modelling, casting in silicone, resin and creature creation. He also enjoys working on practical effects for film and stage and developed flame and flash effects for two of NIDA’s recent productions.
During his time at NIDA, Hunter has worked on many productions fabricating and sourcing props across several genres. Most recently, as props supervisor for Mr Burns a Post Electric Play, Hunter was able to collaborate with all artistic departments while supervising several props assistants to deliver a show over three acts with many complex props.
Hunter has also created multiple short films, being the first undergraduate to complete the Model for Film project entirely digitally with the film Some Kind of Monster in which he demonstrated techniques such as rendering material creation, lighting and animation.
For his final year masterwork, Hunter designed a creature and created a silicone mask. During this project he extensively researched physical characteristics of a number of moulding and casting materials and refined his skills in resin eye making, sculpting, moulding and painting. After NIDA, Hunter plans to pursue a career in prop making for film and television and later move into CGI.
