Freyja Wild was born in Naarm/Melbourne. At age three she saw a circus show and knew what she wanted to do. By seven she persuaded her mother to move to Bungambrawatha/Albury-Wodonga so she could attend the Flying Fruit Fly Circus School. At fifteen, her mother moved back to Naarm, and Freyja stayed on to complete her training. In 2009, she joined Circa and was in the cast that took Circa from a relatively unknown company to its internationally renowned status. In seven years at Circa, Freyja pioneered a new style of hula hooping incorporating high-level, technical hula hooping with tumbling and group acrobatics; and she became an acrobatic base, deliberately epitomising femininity and strength, popularising and normalising women in that role across Australia. She went on to work with Circus Oz, then The 7 Fingers, a world-renowned Montréal-based circus company, where she created Passagers, heralded as one of their best works. Freyja blended her Australian circus culture with their style to create a stunning blend of theatre, dance, live music and circus. In 2019, Freyja became pregnant and continued performing until she was 5 months pregnant. Her son Otis was born in Montréal as the pandemic took hold. She moved with her family to Launceston, Lutruwita/Tasmania, and started a business as a health coach. In September 2021, Tony Rooke asked Freyja and other artists to create a show. She relished being back on stage, the show sold out and confirmed that circus has the power to move and heal people, just as in her health coaching business. Those artists went on to form ROOKE as a not-for-profit company in July 2022. Freyja took on the roles of Artistic Director and CEO and has led them to perform at many significant festivals and venues across Tasmania and Australia.
