Home Profile Brigitte Haviland

Brigitte Haviland

Brigitte Haviland is a queer, autistic, emerging screenwriter from south west Sydney. Her work centres her lived experience in stories about identity, authenticity and belonging, told in her signature dry comedic tone. In the spirit of generosity, Brigitte practices the art of vulnerability, aiming to craft stories that reflect and connect with audiences who need them.

Brigitte’s production background includes time at Flickerfest, Network Ten, Goalpost Pictures and various TVC production companies. She produced shorts at Metro Screen, and created independent dramedy web series, I Know You Are, crowd-funded via the Australian Cultural Fund. Her short, Vibe-Raters, was a grant winner and finalist in Quit Victoria and MQFF’s Keep the Vibe Alive competition.

Brigitte focused on screenwriting at AFTRS. Her first feature screenplay, Hi-Vis Hayley, is a semi-autobiographical story about a queer suburban woman trying to release shame and find love in her late thirties. Melissa Lee Speyer is attached as script editor. Brigitte recently completed the Co-Curious Stories Online program for emerging Western Sydney screenwriters and the AWG’s First Break program. She is a recipient of the FINCH scholarship at NIDA where she is completing her Masters of Fine Arts in Dramatic Writing.
