The National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) is sad to announce the passing of Ian Turland, who has been an integral part of the NIDA community for over 20 years.
Ian was a long-standing and much-loved staff member who worked in the NIDA Set Construction Department for over two decades. He was known for his remarkable kindness, quiet candour, sly wit and love of boiling hot tea. His generosity and skill as a master set builder was apparent in the way he shared his knowledge with anyone who needed it. He was always willing to drop everything to help out students and staff of any discipline on any project, large or small.
‘Ian was an integral member of the set construction department who over time became a treasured colleague and friend. Ian was my right hand for eighteen years on over a hundred shows and projects, he greeted me every day with a ‘Hello Guvnor’ although there was no need to govern Ian, he simply knew the seasons of NIDA, and quietly went about doing what was necessary to make it all happen.
He will be greatly missed by everyone at NIDA who knew and loved him.’
