NIDA reengages partnership with Department of Education

In 2018, NIDA is excited to be staging two plays included in the HSC syllabus as part of the June season of student productions.

This year NIDA has again partnered with the Department of Education and we will be working closely to develop workshops that are linked to the curriculum and the productions that are in the English and Drama prescriptions. Package will be offered for schools to attend a production and a workshop once they are developed in collaboration with the directors of the productions. The productions this year are:

  • Waiting for Godot; Arguably one of the most divisive plays of the 20th century, Samuel Beckett’s famous tragicomedy Waiting For Godotwill be staged in NIDA’s stunning Parade Theatre and will be directed by Susanna Dowling. Students will be introduced to ‘Theatre of the Absurd’ a play that helped popularise the movement in the 1950s! (HSC English Prescriptions)
  • The Removalists by David Williamson; one of Australia’s best-known dramatists, is one of his most famous plays. Students will experience Australian Drama and the genre of realism. They will explore themes of violence, power and authority in Australian society (HSC Drama Prescriptions).
  • Garcia Lorca’s Yerma; set against the barren hills of Andalusia and filled with the passionate music of flamenco and beats of the canon, Yerma is a timeless story of a woman’s desire to have a purpose and place in the community. NIDA is proud to present a production by Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Fine Arts students, with three musicians. Dance experts will be brought in for the DoE NIDA Open Schools workshop element.
