Penny is an actor and teacher with over 20 years’ experience in all areas of theatre and performance. Graduating from WAAPA (Musical Theatre), performance career highlights include The Boy from Oz, Mamma Mia!, NED: A New Australian Musical, Hamlet (Australian Shakespeare Company) and Doubt (RL Productions).
As a teaching artist she has worked on projects and with companies as diverse as Creatability (catering for people of all abilities in the arts), JugendinWien (a summer drama program in Vienna, Austria), Punctum Live Arts (1000 word project in collaboration with Bendigo Art Gallery), La Boîte School’s Chorus and Sydney Children’s Festival. She facilitated the creation of Odd Sock Youth Theatre and ran drama classes for people aged 5–25 in central Victoria under the banner of Stepping Stones.
As a voice practitioner she has worked with people ranging from all areas of life on their sung and spoken voice for over 15 years. She is particularly interested in working in the interplay between spoken and sung text in musical theatre and in continuing her work in the wider community helping to reconnect people to the entire palette of their vocal potential.
