Mikala Westall

Mikala is a director and writer based in Sydney and studied a Bachelor of Theatre and Creative Arts and French Studies at Murdoch University and The University of Western Australia.
In 2015 Mikala won the Emerging Artist Award at Perth’s Fringeworld Festival for her production Moving On Inc, which she wrote and directed. In 2016 Mikala was a part of the Black Swan State Theatre Company’s Emerging Writer’s Group.
Mikala has curated intimate live performances for Perth International Arts Festival (2018) and Proximity Festival (2015, 2016). In 2016 she created a site specific performance Swamp Clubb, that toured through Perth’s cultural centre, which went on to appear at the Perth International Arts Festival in 2017. Mikala has also worked extensively in remote communities across Western Australia and the Northern Territory as an arts facilitator.
More recently, Mikala co-created Don’t Go To Bed, a monthly queer live talk show set in Redfern’s iconic Bearded Tit, which blends performance and interview to celebrate individuals contributing to the local arts, music, science and Indigenous communities.
