Corey attended Macquarie University where he studied chemistry, while also taking classes in three languages, four other science fields, contemporary music and dance. Alongside studying, Corey was also developing his interest in theatre at his local community theatre.
During his time at NIDA, Corey’s passion for theatre has expanded drastically. With the resources available and the freedom of experimentation, Corey was able to become Sound Designer for The Country Wife – a 17th century restoration comedy – using a fugue of Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance, an orchestral arrangement of The Hamster Dance and finish it off with Britney Spears’ Toxic. He completed secondments with Short + Sweet Illawarra (Production Assistant), Darlinghurst Theatre Company (Production Assistant, Torch Song Trilogy) and Merrigong Theatre Company (Stage Management Assistant, Lost Boys).
Corey’s versatility in technical theatre means he is capable of taking any role while doing it backwards and in heels, as seems to be the trend with his time onstage, having created the lighting design for his local community theatre’s production of La Cage Aux Folles in 2015 where he played Mercedes, and more recently RENT in 2018, where the heels got taller and the hair got higher as he played one of the three wise drag queens – a reimagining of the homeless characters.
The next step for Corey is the creation of his cabaret show, much to the anticipation of his tutors.
