Born on Queensland’s Gold Coast, Ryan’s keen interest in the technical aspects of the live performance industry developed during his high school years. Before applying for NIDA’s Production course, Ryan worked for Dominica Sound and International Sound & Lighting on the Gold Coast whilst also obtaining a Certificate III in Live Production, Theatre and Events.
During his time at NIDA, Ryan has taken every opportunity to further his technical knowledge and practical experience in the fields of lighting and sound. As part of his graduating year, Ryan has spent time seconded to and working for The Lion King (Disney Theatricals Australia), Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour (Opera Australia), Melbourne Theatre Company, as well as shadowing one of Australia’s most sought after lighting designers, Damien Cooper. This year Ryan also worked as lighting designer for Mop Head Productions, The God Of Hell, by Sam Shepard directed by Rodney Fisher.
In July 2014 Ryan was awarded the 2014 Electronic Theatre Control LDI International Student Sponsorship. Ryan will be travelling to the United States in November for a month to further his education and increase his network of contacts around the world.
