Matthew Predny

Matthew grew up in the town of Eraring NSW surrounded by dogs, cats, horses, birds, lizards, snakes and various other family members. After his parents heard him singing along to Tina Arena’s classic power ballad ‘Chains’ at the age of six, they encouraged him to apply for the school choir.

This led to him attending the Hunter School of the Performing Arts. Matthew appeared in Newcastle local theatre including Avenue Q, West Side Story, Cats, The Pirates of Penzance, Seussical The Musical and Monty Python and the Holy Grail, among others. After completing high school, he began studying a combined Law/Arts degree at University of Newcastle.

Two years into this, Matthew decided that it was soul-crushingly mundane. Thankfully he was accepted into NIDA’s Acting/Music Theatre intake for 2012. In addition to his involvement at NIDA, Matthew also co-wrote, co-directed and co-produced two full-scale musicals (Sydney Fringe ’12 People’s Choice award) and a short film (W.O.W. Festival '14 shortlist).
