Rodney Seaborn Library
The Rodney Seaborn Library is a specialist library for NIDA students, graduates and staff located in the NIDA building in Kensington. We are also open to the general public, by appointment.
Created in 1980 as a small repository at the University of New South Wales, the Rodney Seaborn Library is now one of Australia’s leading performing arts-based libraries.
What do we have in our collection?
The library collection includes:
- 30,000 theatre, drama and play scripts
- eBooks and online play scripts
- over 50 journals
- 6,000 video recordings (VHS and DVD)
- 3,400 sound recordings (CD, LP and cassette).
The library holds archival materials related to NIDA performances, including prompt copies, programs and recordings of shows.

Where are we?
NIDA is located at 215 Anzac Parade Kensington, directly opposite the University of New South Wales (UNSW). Regular public transport runs to the university.
The library is open to NIDA staff, students and graduate members at the following times during term:
- Monday - Friday 8.30am–8pm
- Saturday 11am–2pm
- Sunday closed
*Opening hours are subject to change at short notice. Hours are shortened outside of term time.
The library is closed on:
- all NSW public holidays
Not a NIDA staff member or student?
Visitor appointments are required for members of the public and are only available during weekdays from:
- 10am–1pm, or
Visitor appointments are not available for Saturdays.
