Kasimir and Karoline By Ödön von Horváth Directed by Jeff Janisheski Dates: | 7-8, 11-14 June | 7.30pm 8 June | 2pm 13 June | 2.30pm | | Venue: | Parade Studio | “Dreams are illusions.” During a chaotic and drunken evening at an amusement park, the characters in von Horváth’s play philosophize, fall out of love, fall in love, and feverishly distract themselves from an imploding economy. Under the garish carnival lights, the rich prey on the poor, the poor scramble to climb up the ladder, and everyone spins out clichés of hope, dreams and love. This production re-examines the work of this vastly overlooked playwright who – according to Peter Handke – is “better than Brecht.” Featuring NIDA second year acting and final year costume, design, production and properties students. This production contains strobe lighting effects and coarse language. | | | | | | | | |
