Cloud 9 By Caryl Churchill Directed by Kip Williams Dates: | 19-22, 24 June | 7.30pm 22 June | 2pm 24 June | 2.30pm | | Venue: | Parade Theatre | “We must resist this dark female lust, Betty, or it will swallow us up.” Exploding gender, sexuality, race and identity, Churchill’s dark comedy proves as vital today as when it premiered in 1979. Set in colonial Africa and modern-day Britain, this theatrically experimental text strips away the layers of masks we hide behind – and exposes the characters’ conflicted identities. Alumnus Kip Williams, a Resident Director at Sydney Theatre Company, returns to NIDA with a bold vision for this iconic work by one of Britain’s most influential writers. Cloud 9 is supported by the NIDA Production Fund. Featuring NIDA final year acting, costume, design, production and properties students. The production contains strong coarse language, violence and adult themes. | | | | | |
