YOUNG DIRECTORS & WRITERS STUDIO

This course develops skills in writing and directing drama for stage and screen for 16 to 20 year olds.

Work with leading industry tutors to develop a one-act play and short film projects. You will be encouraged and stimulated and will learn how to collaborate with other artists. Become familiar with industry standards and acquire a variety of skills including methods of work-shopping your script with directors and actors.

Term 3 concludes with a reading or performance of your one-act play in a NIDA venue while term 4 sees you choosing to work either with the young film makers to write scripts for short films or with the young actors studio as assistant directors.

Term 1: Dramatic storytelling, stage vs. screen narrative, character and dialogue
Term 2: Theatre styles, writing a one-act play
Term 3: Play writing and directing
Term 4: Script writing or working as assistant director

Times: Sundays 12.00pm - 5.00pm

VENUE

NIDA - 215 Anzac Parade, Kensington, Sydney

DATES

Classes in each term are held on consecutive Sundays

Term 1 - 10 February to 6 April  (8 weeks with Easter Break)
Term 2 - 4 May to 22 June  (8 weeks)
Term 3 - 20 July to 7 September (8 weeks)
Term 4 - 12 October to 7 December (9 weeks)

Sundays 12.00pm to 5.00pm

AGES

This course is for 16 to 20 year olds.

FEES

Fees: $2,800 payable over 5 instalments of $560.

Fees must be paid in advance with a commitment to continue the course for the duration of the year. There is no refund of fees once the term commences.

APPLICATIONS

Applications for 2008 are now open.

Entry is by interview.  Please come ready to discuss a play or film that you have seen recently. All applicants are given an interview. The decision of the interview panel is final.
